C0MPETITIVE WALK

The Women's 5K Classic Competitive Walk has become quite popular and very competitive. In order to provide a fair environment the W5K has established Competitive Walk guidelines for the event. There will be course marshals assigned to monitor the entire Competitive Walk course. Only participants who abide by the Competitive Walk guidelines will be eligible for awards.

Stay tuned for Competitive Walk updates here on the W5K website. Have fun putting that "wiggle" in your walk!

GUIDELINES:

Definition of Race Walking. Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg must be straightened (i.e., not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the leg is in the vertical upright position.

1. One foot must maintain contact with the ground at all times.

2. Lead leg must be straight.

FORM:

1. Maintain an upright posture.

2. Hold elbows at 90 degrees and really pump your arms.

3. Take shorter steps.

4. Roll through the bottom of your foot and push off your toes. Think heel to toe.
